NICKNAMES. Rontsi, Foreigner, Tall Person.

ORIGIN. Rontsi is nearly full-blooded Russian, but as with many Cossacks, somewhere in the bloodline are a Turk and a Mongol.
AGE. 29.
HEIGHT. 6'5".
WEIGHT. 205 lb.

WEAPONS.
1. A 'shashka' is a Cossack sabre, a little shorter than a full-length one but no less dangerous. Known to twirl it above his head before delivering a strike. It's a bad habit.

2. Whips explain themselves. Especially ones that have barbed hooks in the end designed to get stuck in one's flesh. Brrr.

3. An unnecessarily-long odachi was given to him when he first arrived in Japan. An old blacksmith thought Rontsi's 77-inch height was impressive, and falsely believed that he'd be strong enough to use a long sword effectively. He can't. It's still too heavy, and has impeded him many a time in running around. It has since become a prime piece of decoration in his room.

BACKGROUND.
As soon as he learned how to walk, Oborontsi was brought up in the proud, militaristic Cossack lifestyle. His mother was an aristocratic woman who'd been captured by his father on a charge, and insisted that her son learn the finer things in life. Except for the singing - he learned that from the boys. In an altercation with the Mongols over river access and territory, Rontsi found himself the only wounded survivor of a massacre of his Cossack comrades. He stowed away on a fishing boat to Japan, and upon arrival, heard that an exotic-looking man like him could make a lot of money...

ABILITIES.
Rontsi comes equipped with a basic set of nomadic Russian skills: Horsemanship, excellent handling of a sabre, burning, pillaging, ability to drink anyone under the table, and... oh yes. Cheating at dice games.

LIKES. Getting paid. Gambling. Females. Having people afraid of him. Going unnoticed in crowds.

DISLIKES. Superstitious folk. Boys that want to be his apprentice. Hot weather. Having to fight without being paid for it.

FIGHTING STYLE.
Rontsi has become something of a fight merchant during his stay in Japan, so he's likely to wax grandiloquent if he gets the opportunity. This may or may not involve elaborate weapon moves, picking up his opponent and taunting them, or laughing menacingly. When he's away from the stage, however, he takes everything seriously, and aims to win as rapidly and efficiently as he can. He's been injured on the battlefield before, and knows that a quick finish is better on principle. He's surprisingly fast for someone of his size, and is not unwilling to take a sucker-punch at someone if they get close enough.

ODDS AND ENDS.
He really prefers vodka to sake, and is somewhat disappointed with Asia's selection of liquor. He also suffers from occasional migraines. They could be from battle fatigue, but the more likely cause is that being six-foot-five in a land where men rarely pass five-foot-ten, he's always hitting his head on doorways.
